The breed is quite sociable and reliable with children. Shyness is a fault in the breed. Alert and willing to learn, these pets excel in various canine sports, and make very good family companions for people of various walks of life.

These are medium-sized, square built dogs. The coat colors are fawn and brindle. They have a proud carriage. They have muscular bodies, strong limbs, and short, tight-fitting coat. The breed was originally developed to serve as guard, working and companion dogs. Most dogs possessing light color of the coat have some spots on their skin. They are not albinos, since they have pigment in their eyes. Temperamentally, the dogs of this breed are playful and fun loving. They are sometimes called Peter Pans of the dog world.
