The breed standard changed several times since the early 19th century. According to current breed standard, these are muscular, short-coated, square-headed canines with tight skin and a docked tail. Males stand 22.5-25 inches at the withers and weigh about 70 pounds. Females are a bit smaller at 21-23.5 inches and about 60 pounds. They need a lot of attention from their owners and will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. Early socialization and firm consistent training is a must for this breed; otherwise these pets may become dominating and stubborn. This breed is used for many purposes from a wonderful family pet to military and police work.

Pictures Of Boxer Dogs -
training, rescue
The ancestors of this breed were two German mastiff type dogs, the Bullenbeiszer and the Barenbeiszer. They were later crossed with the powerful ancestors of the Mastiff and Bulldog. They were also popular circus and theater performers because they learned tricks so easily. They have compact and powerful bodies with shiny coats that fit close to their skin. They come in a variety of colors including brindle, fawn, and various shades of red. Some also have white markings. Most show pets have docked tails.
